How would you counsel her?

How would you counsel her? Posted by Osman A.
Dear Dr Paul,
Questions no 210 : A 30 year old nulliparous woman with SLE is planning a pregnancy. How would you counsel her?
I notice that the model answer is more or less like the managment of SLE in pregnancy. Should we approach the same way of answering if we are given say Renal transplant patient.
Thanks

The approach should be the same: see GENERIC ESSAY PLANS in NOTES.

1) Find out nature and severity of disease - if inherited diseaase, offer genetic counselling. If severe, counsel against pregnancy and provide appropriate contraception

2) Involve appropriate specialist

3) Discuss impact of pregnancy on the disease and impact of the disease on pregnancy...

You should then modify this depending on the disease.
