Question 40: The following can precipitate or exacerbate stress incontinence

4. Anterior colporrhaphy
True False
Natalie\'s answer: false Correct answer: true

Explanation given is that an anterior colporrhaphy can unmask SI.
Why is that please?
I thought it used to be a treatment for SI but did not have longterm efficacy.

Cheers

Repair of a large cystocele can unmask stress incontinence. Women with a large cystocele but no incontinence should ideally have the cystocele reduced with a ring pessery to see if they become incontinent. If they do, UDS should be undertaken with ring in-situ before deciding on surgery.
