HSV-2 IN PREGNANCY

HSV-2 IN PREGNANCY Posted by ANANTHAPRIYA D.
HI,
AS FAR AS I KNOW THE DIAGNOSIS OF GENITAL HERPES IS CLINICAL, AT LEAST IN MY PRACTICE(OUTSIDE THE U.K). EVEN THE RCOG GUIDELINES DO NOT MENTION ANY DEFINITIVE TEST IM THE AFFECTED PREGNANT WOMAN. COULD SOMEONE PLEEEEASE TELL ME IF HSV ANTIBODIES ARE NEEDE DTO DIAGNOSE GENITAL HERPES IN PREGNANCY?

Diagnosis of active disease can not be confirmed by clinical examination...IgG and IgM are needed....to decide the mode of delivery...

Dear Sir,
I found the following in one of the GTG of the college(Managementof Gwnital Herpis in pregnancy)/section 5/page4:

\"\" Asking pregnant womean at her screeningvisiti whether she or her male partner has ever hadgenital herpes is not an accurate way of determining her risk of acquireing primary HSV because of the previllance of asymptomatic or unrecognised infection.\'\'\'\'\'

s dosent that mean that ab titre is needed?!!/....pls for your opinion.THx.
